Yesterday was a very scary day for us. Brody was having a fever off and on all day yesterday and I was trying to figure out why he was having a fever in the first place. I gave him medicine around 4 o clock last night and it did nothing to him but made him drowsy. He went for a nap after that and then was still feeling hot after that. Chris came home from work and I gave Brody a luke warm bath around 7 o clock because that is what you are suppose to do when they have a fever. We put him down for bed at 8 o clock and around 9 he woke up screaming like he was in pain, I have never heard this sound out of him before. He was burning up! We decided to take him to the ER and I am so thankful we did that. At first I wanted to take him to insta care but the one that was close to us was the one in Syracuse. I really didn't want to go back to the ER because I had such a bad experience before but this was necessary. We got there and they took his temperature and it was at 102.6 so his temperature went up a few degrees within minutes. They took us to a separte room so we could wait for the doctor to come in and they gave us a gown to put him in and when Chris was getting him undress what we saw frighten us and we will never forget it.
While Chris was getting him undressed Brody eyes started to roll into the back of his head and we didn't know what was going on. He stopped crying and everything. The nurse comes in and quickly takes him out of my arms and puts him in a different room and starts putting monitors on him. Since his temperature went up so quickly he went into Febrile Seizure, it doesn't mean he will have seizures the rest of his life it just happens to some children when their fever goes up quickly like that. It scared the hell out of me and Chris. There was nothing more that we could do except step back and let the doctors and nurses work on him. I felt so helpless at that moment. That has never happened to us before so we didn't know what to do or even what to think. They got him stabled and he started to breath and cry and that was a good sign. Even though it was only for a few minutes that he was having a seizure it felt like forever. They said while they have a seizure they don't know who we are and where they are at so when they are coming out of it they start crying again because they are confused. I am very thankful for all the doctors and nurses that worked on him, they were very generous and I couldn't asked for a better team.
They took his urine and blood and gave him an X ray to see all the possible options on why he was running such a high fever in the first place. His urine and blood came back normal and on his X ray they didn't see any infections but they saw a little bit of Bronchitis on his chest, nothing big, just a mild case of it. No wonder he has been coughing for the past few days, poor little guy, I couldn't imagine what he was going through last night. Overall he is doing well, his fever went down and he is a little bit wobbly from last night but he is doing good. He just has to stay on the medicine that they gave him for the next 4 days or until its gone to keep the fever down. I want to thank Trena for taking Rocky last night so we could concentrate on Brody. I also want to thank the doctors and nurses again for doing the best for my little guy. I am thankful for a lot of things right now in life!
